Etymology
כפרה יאנא or كپّارة يانا kumpāra yāna, lit. 'kapara I will be'; shortening of nəmsi kəppāra ˁălī-k 'I will go as kapara for you'; in reference to the swinging of the sacrificial chicken (kapara) on Yom Kippur, during which one's sins are transferred to the chicken which is then sacrificed.
