  • Also called kiddushin.

    Erusin, "the legal part of the service, includes the ring ceremony and is traditionally separated from the nissuin by the reading of the ketubbah. In early times, this formal betrothal took place a year before the marriage. Today, the erusin and nissuin rituals have been combined into one ceremony, all conducted under a huppah." (JPS)
