Notes

  • "Programs and institutions affiliated with Jewish Federation include day care, family counseling, Jewish community centers, geriatric facilities, and employment services. Fund-raising efforts support these local efforts and similar programs in the State of Israel. Usually, a local federation bears the name of the city in which it functions, such as the Jewish Federation of Cleveland. Volunteer leaders from the community serve on agency boards, manage projects, and oversee fund-raising appeals. Jews often make a donation to their local Jewish Federation, which collects and distributes the funds. In 1997 the Council of Jewish Federations merged with the United Jewish Appeal and the United Israel Appeal. The combined agency is now called the United Jewish Communities." (JPS)
